Danny Welbeck was man of the match tonight even if ITV insisted that Steven Gerrard was. Two goals from Welbz took his international record to eight in 18 (by comparison, Emile Heskey scored seven in 62 appearances).
Despite being forced to play on the left wing, Welbeck thrived on a busy night as England won 4-0. His first goal was the perfect example of how good his first touch is as he took the ball past the advancing keeper with his touch before slotting into an empty net. It was a cool, classy and composed goal for Welbeck.
His second was nearly as deft as his finish against Swansea. With a delicate flick of his foot, he lifted the ball over Moldova’s goalkeeper into the net. Two for Welbz. 4-0 England. Game over.
Welbz can’t finish? Don’t make me laugh.
