Manchester United’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has been emphatically ended before it even began on transfer deadline day.
Reports broke this morning that Man United had approached Atletico regarding their captain’s availability but now it’s emerged that they have since been shut down by the Europa League champions.
Sky Sports News broke that news about United’s interest in Godin, but now Sky journalist Kaveh Solhekol has tweeted out stating that Atletico rejected the approach – seemingly almost instantly.
Solhekol added that the 32-year-old himself didn’t want the move because he’s about to sign a new deal at the Wanda Metropolitano after United triggered his £18m release clause and offered him £150,000-a-week wages.
