It was always going to be a tricky game. Craven Cottage is a notoriously tough place to travel to. Many title-chasing teams have dropped substantial points away to Fulham over the years. Sir Alex Ferguson, therefore, would have been under no illusions ahead of Manchester United’s evening kick-off in the capital. A win would be big but a defeat would be huge. And despite a comfortable 4-1 cruise in last weekend’s FA Cup tie, Fulham were, understandably, out for revenge, or at least a shock result.
