Manchester United have exercised the option to extend Marouane Fellaini‘s contract by a further 12 months, according to widespread reports in the British press.
Without the contract extension, Fellaini would have entered the final year of his Man United deal this summer meaning he would have been free to talk to other clubs. This extension protects United and stops that from happening.
But more so than that, it’s Jose Mourinho following up his kind words about Fellaini with genuine action. You could tell from Fellaini’s bearhug celebration with Mourinho after his goal against Hull City on Tuesday that there was real affection from the Belgian towards United’s boss for trusting him. It seems that mutual trust has led to an extension for Fellaini.
